Volkswagen’s U.S. EV Sales Tumble 90%

Volkswagen’s new ID. Tiguan electric crossover can’t come soon enough in the United States. The automaker has reported a significant drop in electric car sales in the U.S. for the third quarter, and it has everything to do with the brand’s current lineup.

From July through September, Volkswagen sold 1,421 electric cars in the U.S., a whopping 90% decrease compared to the same period last year. It’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest, sales drops of any EV manufacturer stateside in the third quarter.

The company moved 989 ID.4 crossovers, 92.1% fewer than the 12,470 units sold in Q3 2025. Meanwhile, the ID. Buzz minivan saw just 432 sales in the last quarter, down 82.5% from last year’s 2,469.

Overall, Volkswagen sold 78,179 cars in the U.S. in the third quarter, a 10.9% decrease from the same period last year. From January through September, the automaker sold 6,107 EVs stateside, 77% fewer compared to the same period last year.
