Volkswagen is offering its Chinese-market Jetta M6 electric sedan with nearly 290 miles of CLTC-rated range for less than $12,000 (USD), and if that’s not what “der people’s wagen” should be all about, I don’t know what is.
Launched as a joint venture between FAW and Volkswagen Group, the Jetta brand’s first battery electric car is finally here – and it is a genuinely accessible, capable, and kinda decent-looking family sedan in the same way VW’s original Type I was when it was first developed in the 1940s.
The new Jetta M6 was launched earlier this in three variants: the 465 Pro, 555 Max and 555 Ultra; each priced at 79,800 yuan (~$11,800), 89,800 yuan and 99,800 yuan, respectively, with the model numbers corresponding to the car’s estimated CLTC range in kilometers (which maths out around ~285 and 345 miles, if you’re curious).
Built on FAW’s Jiesi architecture, the M6 measures 4,806 mm long and 1,868 mm wide, putting it right in that sedan sweet spot between the Civic/Corolla and Accord/Camry crews, and within a few mm this way and that of the Tesla Model 3, so it should have plenty of room for young professionals and families – but the M6′ real selling point is its tech.
6″ central touchscreen that integrates Chinese AI assistants Doubao and DeepSeek and ships with Apple CarPlay baked in. Advanced ADAS with , “intelligent cruise assistance, automatic emergency braking, and automated parking” is standard.
