Electric motor technology company Vimag Labs has begun operations at its first manufacturing facility at Met City in Jhajjar, Haryana, and has already exported its first production batch. The plant makes and assembles motor and control systems, including Vimag’s own magnet-free motor technology.
Jhajjar is the first step in a phased manufacturing expansion in India, for which Vimag currently plans to invest around ₹50 crore. The money will be deployed in stages as customer programmes and production volumes grow.
The facility currently covers 10,000 sq ft and can be expanded to about 20,000 sq ft. It features clean rooms, a highly automated production line, digitally connected systems and IoT-based monitoring and traceability. The first phase will focus on making mid-power motor and control systems for electric mobility and other electrified applications.
“The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production,” said Mr. Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs.
As customer programmes grow, Vimag plans to move into high-power systems of 570 kW and above, and to build up capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems a month across locations. It is also evaluating new sites and building a network of manufacturing, supply chain and tooling partners across India. The expansion is expected to create 100–150 direct and indirect jobs, with a focus on local hiring.
Vimag recently raised $5 million in a Series A round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate.
