Don’t want to pay full price? Used EVs with low miles, like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E, are selling on the secondhand market for $25,000 or less.
With a flood of electric cars returning from lease this year and soaring gas prices, used EVs are suddenly flying off the lot.
Used EV sales rose to a record 3.3% of total used vehicle sales last month, up from 2.9% in August, according to Cox Automotive.
Used ICE vehicle sales, on the other hand, dropped 4.4% in September as buyers flocked to more efficient options.
As expected, Tesla remains the leading used EV brand, followed by Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, and BMW.
By model, the Nissan Ariya led growth, with sales up 42.5% in September, followed by the Chevy Equinox EV (+41.9%), Kia EV9 (+36.2%), and Chevy Blazer EV (+30.2%), while the Ford Mustang Mach-E (+14.7%) and Tesla Model Y (+13.8 %) also saw more demand.
With more options to choose from, which one is best for you? To help you decide, Edmunds, which has tested nearly all of them, put together a list of four top used electric SUVs available for under $25,000.
The first one on the list was the Chevy Equinox EV, or as GM used to call it, “America’s most affordable 315+ range” electric vehicle.
After it arrived in 2024, the Chevy Equinox EV quickly became one of the top-selling electric vehicles in the US outside Tesla, winning over buyers with enough space for a family and plenty of driving range at an affordable price.
