TomTom is expanding its E-Mobility Suite with a new platform for automakers. With "Electric Vehicle Management," new EV variants are to be integrated into routing, range calculation, and charging planning within minutes instead of months.
The Dutch navigation systems manufacturer is further expanding its offerings for electric vehicles, primarily targeting automakers and mobility providers. According to TomTom, the new addition is the Electric Vehicle Management self-service platform, which enables manufacturers to register new vehicle variants using basic data such as battery size, charging connectors, dimensions and weight.
Subsequently, the vehicles receive a digital ID, used across TomTom’s services for route planning, charging recommendations, range calculation and navigation. The provider aims to eliminate the need for a vehicle to be integrated multiple times for different applications. The same data foundation can serve infotainment systems, companion apps or web services.
After onboarding, TomTom’s AI-powered consumption model takes over. It combines physical calculations with real-world driving data to generate vehicle-specific forecasts for range and charging requirements. As the data pool grows, the predictions are expected to become increasingly accurate.
In parallel, TomTom is expanding its features for drivers. Using the EV search function, drivers can reportedly find more than 2.3 million charging connectors across 117 countries. The system displays information such as charging power, opening hours, current availability and expected utilisation at the time of arrival. A reliability rating also helps users avoid potentially unavailable charging points.
With EV routing, the system selects suitable charging stops along the route and automatically adjusts the route if drivers change or skip a stop.
