Jeep is bringing back the Renegade, confirming that a new generation of its smallest SUV will arrive by the decade’s end as part of an ambitious plan to expand its European lineup. The original model has been a key player for the American brand since 2014. Still, its successor will have to find its place in an increasingly crowded market where electrification is becoming harder to ignore.
Announced at the Paris Motor Show this week, the comeback is part of Jeep's broader strategy to offer up to six models in Europe by 2030. The automaker hasn't revealed when the next-generation Renegade will debut or provided technical details, but it has made clear that electrification will play a major role in its future.
Jeep says it has sold more than 610,000 Renegades in Europe alone since the original model launched in 2014. That's a respectable tally for a brand built on rugged off-roaders, and it explains why the Stellantis brand isn't ready to abandon the small SUV segment.
The next-generation Renegade will aim to attract a broader audience while retaining the brand's core identity. Jeep hasn't confirmed which powertrains it will offer. Still, its European roadmap emphasizes a multi-energy strategy, suggesting customers could have different propulsion options rather than being forced into a single technology.
That approach makes sense for a market where electrification is progressing at different speeds across countries. Whether the new Renegade will offer gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric power remains to be seen. Jeep hasn't committed to specific configurations yet.
