Porsche has a plan to bounce back, and it involves a thorough refresh of its lineup. The star of Zuffenhausen’s portfolio will be a new mid-engined hypercar, which we’ll first see as a Mission S concept on October 15. Arguably less exciting but still in the two-door performance car genre, the 718 Boxster and Cayman will return next year as EVs. As we learned yesterday, the gas models are not coming back.
The house of Zuffenhausen is also planning a new gas crossover to replace the Macan in 2028 and is still considering a flagship SUV positioned above the Cayenne. Okay, that’s all well and good, but what about the Porsche? Well, there’s interesting news on the 911 front, too. The Sportwagenschmiede '35 strategy outlined this week at the Capital Markets Day calls for new “highly emotive 911 derivatives.”
While the company didn’t go into details, it’s easy to connect the dots, at least as far as one special variant is concerned. Introduced six years ago, the 992 generation is getting up there in years. Usually, the GT2 RS arrives closer to the end of the life cycle, and test mules are already racking up miles at the Nürburgring.
The ultimate 911 could arrive in 2027 and is rumored to feature partial electrification by adapting the T-Hybrid system from the GTS and Turbo S. A report from Autocar alleges the gas engine alone hit 1,000 horsepower on the test bench, but that’s highly unlikely to carry over to the production model.
