Octopus launches discounted public charging scheme for EV fleets

Octopus Energy has launched a new public charging scheme for EV fleets via its Octopus Fleet platform. This promises businesses savings of up to 30 per cent per year on charging costs.

The ‘FleetBoost’ scheme is now available through the company’s Octopus Fleet platform, and takes the form of a new subscription which gives commercial EV fleets discounted public charging rates across multiple charging networks. In an announcement, Octopus claims this could reduce public charging costs by up to £730 per vehicle per year. This calculation is based on an assumption that a vehicle travels 15,000 miles annually at an efficiency of 0.3 kWh per mile, with the savings calculated after FleetBoost’s monthly subscription fee is applied.

At launch, the scheme covers charging networks operated by MFG EV Power, Ionity and BE.EV, with Octopus stating that more charge point operators will join in future. Together, the three networks give early FleetBoost users access to thousands of public chargers across the UK. Octopus says FleetBoost is intended to address the availability of suitable public chargers for commercial drivers, and that an analysis found that 99 per cent of UK areas covered by FleetBoost are within 14 miles of an eligible charger – with 95 per cent being within nine miles.

Matt Davies, founder of Octopus Fleet, said: “We know that switching a fleet to electric is about much more than putting an EV on the road – businesses need charging to be affordable, reliable and easy for drivers to use, and we’re tackling this all in one go.
