Sure, the new Jensen Interceptor GTX is a track-only special at the moment. But if this British beast leads to a road-car version, we're all for it. Especially after finally getting to hear the thing at full chat.

That supercharged 6.8-liter V8 mill sure does sing a glorious song. Have a listen:

Jensen takes the engine from General Motors and then sends it off to Late Model Engine in Texas. There it's essentially completely overhauled. I assume Jensen mostly wants the block because everything else has been reworked.

The heads are CNC machined, titanium valves are swapped in, and the rotating assembly is upgraded. Jensen uses a Motec system to control the fury. And the result is a mill making around 973 horsepower, but Jensen says up to 1,200 is possible with a tune.

The plan, for now, is to continue to develop the race car with the goal of creating a road-car version. Jensen hopes to offer a grand touring GT and sporting GTR. Both will have roots set in the race car, but built for public consumption.

There's no word on when the road car version will arrive. For now, we just have the prototype Interceptor GTX to listen to... and boy, what a sound it makes.

Motor1's Take : The race car definitely has us buzzing with anticipation for a road-ready version of the Interceptor. Jensen could have quite a ways to go to get there, but clearly the company is on the right path. When it does arrive, it likely won't be cheap.
