A new era in the automotive sector is emerging as manufacturers transition to software-defined vehicles, reshaping both vehicle development and user experience. With AI at the forefront, automotive functions and user interactions are set to become more refined.
For automakers, this represents a fundamental shift in how value is created.
As vehicles become connected, electric and software-defined, software and AI are becoming as critical to automotive innovation as engineering excellence. This convergence presents a unique opportunity for India to become a leader in AI- and software-led mobility innovation, delivering intelligent mobility experiences for customers worldwide. With the industry shifting from hardware-centric products to software-driven platforms, the ability to continuously innovate through software, data and AI will increasingly determine where competitive advantage is created. The rise of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) is changing not only how vehicles are experienced, but how they are designed, developed and monetised. Vehicle capabilities are no longer permanently defined by physical components; software integration allows continuous updates, enhancement and personalisation throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Advt
This fundamentally changes automotive economics because automakers have an opportunity to create value for customers long after the vehicle leaves the showroom. This happens through over-the-air updates, connected services, predictive maintenance, personalisation and new digital features. According to research from IBM Institute for Business Value, 79 per cent of automotive OEM executives expect their software-defined vehicle efforts to progress over the next three years, while 76 per cent believe AI will contribute to that progress. ‘Experience’ is the new battleground Vehicles are becoming more than a means of transportation as consumers increasingly expect intelligent voice assistants, personalised digital cockpits, seamless connectivity and digital experiences that evolve with them.
