Lincoln Will Have Fewer Than 300 Dealerships By The End Of 2027

Lincoln is taking a less-is-more approach to selling luxury vehicles. The American automaker has spent years trimming its dealership network, and the strategy appears to be paying off. With fewer stores selling more vehicles, profitability is improving even as overall sales decline.

Lincoln currently has 387 dealerships in the United States, down from 797 at the end of 2019. The company wants to bring that number below 300 by the end of next year, continuing a consolidation effort that began in 2023.

The goal isn't simply to close showrooms. Lincoln wants a healthier dealer network where individual locations sell more vehicles, generate stronger returns, and have more money available to improve the customer experience.

According to Automotive News, the remaining standalone Lincoln dealerships are on track to deliver their third-best year for profitability in 2026. The brand also says throughput has doubled across its remaining locations.

Another part of the strategy is to separate Lincoln dealerships from Ford stores. Since 2018, the company has encouraged retailers to give the luxury brand its own dedicated facilities rather than sharing showroom space with mainstream vehicles bearing the Blue Oval.

Lincoln calls its glass-paneled showroom design a “vitrine,” and the company recently celebrated opening its 100th dealership built around the concept. In total, dealers now operate nearly 200 standalone Lincoln stores.

It's a significant commitment at a time when Lincoln is still fighting for relevance in a crowded luxury market. The brand needs more than attractive vehicles to stand out; its showrooms and ownership experience also have to measure up against those of established rivals.
