With the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, the second production model based on the electric AMG.AE platform is launching - and it is by no means inferior to the first model, the GT 4-Door Coupé. On the contrary, AMG has even improved on one important technical aspect.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé set the benchmark, and now the AMG GT SUV is raising it even higher. Both models use the AMG.EA architecture and thus feature 800-volt technology. The drivetrain consists of three particularly high-performance axial flux motors, which, in the top-end version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV, can deliver a peak output of 860 kW. This enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reach 200 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. The top speed for all variants is 250 km/h, or electronically limited to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
The continuous output is 530 kW, and the maximum torque reaches 2,000 Nm. To prevent thermal power loss, the battery consists of directly cooled round cells and features active thermal management. This system enables a very high power density and ensures sustained and consistent power delivery. The front-axle motor serves as a booster motor, engaging for additional power or traction at the front axle.
Up to this point, the technology is identical. However, when it comes to maximum charging power, the GT 4-Door Coupé must concede defeat: the GT SUV does not charge at around 600 kW but at up to 710 kW at a correspondingly equipped fast-charging station.
