KGM Torres EVX now eligible for UK Electric Car Grant

Two BEVs from KGM (formerly SsangYong) are now eligible for UK government purchase grants. The Torres EVX eSUV qualifies for the £1,500 Electric Car Grant, joining the Musso EV which already qualified for the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant.

The Torres EVX now qualifies for the Band 2 grant, which is available for electric cars priced below £37,000. This reduces the car’s starting price to £35,495, down from £36,995. The grant is applied directly at the point of purchase by retailers, as is the case with other ECG-eligible EVs.

The Torres EVX is powered by a 73.4 kWh LFP battery supplied by BYD and features a WLTP range of up to 287 miles (462km). Its single front-mounted electric motor produces 152 kW and 399 Nm of torque, with KGM quoting a 10-80 per cent DC charging time of 28 minutes at maximum 120 kW capacity. The SUV also supports vehicle-to-load functionality. In the UK, the EVX is available in two trim levels, with the higher-spec K40 priced from £39,295 before the ECG is applied.

All this means that two of the South Korean brand’s models are now eligible for purchase incentives in the UK. The Musso EV electric pick-up, which launched there in March , also qualifies for the separate £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant, bringing the starting price of its entry-level model down to £39,995 inc. VAT. Kevin Griffin, Managing Director at KGM Motors UK, commented: “Making the move to electric needs to work for customers financially as well as practically.
