India’s electric vehicle market reached a fresh monthly high in September, with EVs accounting for about 13 per cent of all registrations, according to data reported by The Hindu BusinessLine. The strongest momentum came from electric two-wheelers and passenger vehicles, while three-wheelers remained the most electrified segment overall.

Electric mobility in India has moved from a niche story to a mainstream sales trend, with September delivering a fresh benchmark for the market. According to The Hindu BusinessLine , one in every eight vehicles registered in the country during the month was electric, underlining how quickly battery-powered mobility is gaining ground across segments.
Industry registration data compiled by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations showed that EVs accounted for about 13 per cent of the 25.37 lakh vehicles registered in September. The headline number matters less for its symbolism than for what it says about the breadth of the shift: the transition is no longer confined to a single vehicle class or a handful of urban markets.
The strongest volume support still comes from electric two-wheelers, which have become the backbone of India’s EV adoption story. Their penetration rose to 11.58 per cent in September from 8.17 per cent a year earlier, while registrations almost doubled to around 2.07 lakh, based on the category-wise and fuel-mix data reviewed by the industry body.
That means more than six out of every 10 electric vehicles registered in the month were two-wheelers.
