Geely rolls out 1 millionth unit of hot-selling Xingyuan EV

Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) has rolled the 1 millionth unit of its hot-selling small EV, the Xingyuan, off the production line, about 2 years after the model's launch.

Geely Galaxy, the automaker's sub-brand, announced the milestone on Weibo on Tuesday, saying the model currently sells at an average of 1 unit per minute. The model is sold in overseas markets as the Geely EX2.

The Xingyuan was launched in China on October 9, 2024, competing mainly with BYD's (HKEX: 1211) Seagull and Dolphin.

The model's cumulative production reached 200,000 units in May 2025, 600,000 units in March 2026 and 800,000 units in August 2026.

For the full year 2025, the Xingyuan's retail sales in China were 465,775 units, the highest of any model in China, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

However, the model's sales momentum in China has slowed this year, mainly due to weakness in the broader domestic auto market.

In the January-September period this year, the Xingyuan's retail sales in China were 310,391 units, down 9.60% year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In September, the model's retail sales in China were 44,275 units, down 7.91% year-on-year but up 11.66% from August, the highest monthly level so far this year.

To shore up its position in the entry-level market, Geely launched an updated Xingyuan in China on May 28 with a limited-time starting price of 61,800 yuan ($9,200), 6% lower than the previous version.

The updated model comes standard with battery cells from CATL (HKEX: 3750) and offers 3 CLTC range options of 310 kilometers, 410 kilometers and 480 kilometers.
