FAW-Volkswagen has teased a new model that could become the second addition to its China-focused ID. AURA lineup, following the launch of the T6 electric SUV last month.
The Volkswagen joint venture in China released teaser images on 3 consecutive days from October 12 to 14, showing details of the lights, body contours and windows.
The latest image highlights what appears to be a frameless door, though the official teasers have yet to reveal the model's name, powertrain or launch date.
Chinese automotive media outlet Auto Home reported on Wednesday that the vehicle is expected to be a compact electric sedan, potentially named ID. AURA L5. It could be the production version of the earlier ID. AURA concept.
The new model is expected to use Volkswagen's CMP (Compact Main Platform) and China-specific CEA (China Electronic Architecture), while retaining key styling elements of the concept, according to the report.
Volkswagen unveiled the ID. AURA compact electric sedan concept in April 2025, targeting young Chinese families. It was the brand's first concept built on the CMP platform.
The concept showcased the combination of the CMP platform and CEA architecture, designed to support features including a digital cockpit and driver assistance while strengthening Volkswagen's competitiveness in China's compact car market.
The first ID. AURA model to go on sale, however, was an SUV. FAW-Volkswagen launched the T6 on September 20 in 4 variants, with launch prices ranging from 129,900 yuan ($19,320) to 166,900 yuan.
All T6 variants use the CEA electrical and electronic architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), while the 2 higher-end versions feature LiDAR.
