India should move beyond just being a manufacturing base and build skills to design and develop globally competitive products, said Venu Srinivasan , Chairman, India Forum for Quality Management (IFQM) and Chairman Emeritus, TVS Motor , at the third IFQM summit in New Delhi on Monday. The industry veteran said India needs to strengthen its innovation and product-design capabilities to create products that carry an Indian identity in global markets. “Our Prime Minister gave us a vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, and this cannot be built only on talk. This has to come from innovation, product design , and therefore being a company that is not just made in India but designed and made by India,” he said. Advt
He said India also needs to build trust in the quality of products developed and manufactured in the country. “India has every reason to be confident that we can progress. However, we have a long, long way to go because there are benchmarks in the world from Korea, China, Japan that we have to meet and exceed if we want a fair share of global manufacturing and products and services to come to India,” he said.
