BYD's (HKEX: 1211) ultra-luxury brand Yangwang will unveil an executive sedan internally codenamed "HU" in the United Arab Emirates, further expanding its high-end lineup.
Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang's sales division, announced the plan on Weibo on Wednesday, without disclosing a date, venue or the reasons for choosing the UAE.
Hu said the brand would share more about its choice of location and preparations for the unveiling later. She also invited fans to suggest venues and activities for the event.
The announcement confirmed the country where the new model will be unveiled but did not address local launch or sales plans. Its official name and pricing were also not disclosed.
In September, Zheng Yu, assistant general manager of Yangwang and head of marketing and user development, released teaser photos of the sedan and indicated that it would feature new technologies.
The vehicle shown in earlier images remained camouflaged, with a boxy profile, a long hood and wheelbase, and roof-mounted LiDAR. Its styling is expected to carry over some design elements from the Yangwang U8.
Auto Home reported on September 27 that the sedan was expected to measure about 5.5 meters in length, similar to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and could cost more than 2,000,000 yuan (about $297,650) in China.
The report also said the model could feature coach doors. However, its pricing, dimensions and specifications remain expectations from earlier reports and were not confirmed in the latest announcement.
Yangwang already offers the U7 sedan in plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions.
