Brabus has built a four-door convertible while Mercedes finishes preparing its own G-Class cabriolet for production. The 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio, based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63, made its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show with a fabric top, 900 metric horsepower (888 hp) and pricing that pushes past a million euros for German buyers.
Production tops out at 10 examples worldwide, and the export price for the car shown runs €890,740 (about $1,019,000) before German VAT. With tax included, the sticker climbs to €1,059,980 ($1,210,000).
The engine is a reworked twin-turbo 4.5-liter V8, up from the standard G 63's 4.0-liter unit, built around new forged pistons, connecting rods and a dedicated crankshaft. Output lands at 888 hp and 922 lb-ft of peak torque.
Brabus electronically caps the torque delivered to the wheels at 774 lb-ft, even though the engine can produce more. That still gets the Rocket Cabrio from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, with top speed limited to 149 mph.
Brabus says the tire-rated speed cap makes sense on a tall, roofless SUV riding on 24-inch forged Monoblock II wheels, wrapped in 295/30 rubber up front and 345/25 out back. A KW-developed adjustable suspension can drop the body by 1.8 inches.
An exhaust system with switchable valves and four side-exit tips offers a discreet "Coming Home" mode alongside a louder Sport setting. Each car also comes with a blockchain-based digital passport tracking authenticity, ownership history and build specifications.
Turning a boxy SUV into an open-top car takes more than removing a roof.
