Retailers and shoppers still have more than a month to prepare for Black Friday. Will AI play any role in the busiest shopping season of the year? Likely, yes. Will it be big enough to challenge traditional and online retail? Here’s what we know so far.
So much of the success of agentic shopping relies on winning consumer trust. It’s been a subject of many surveys which have attempted to track the public appetite forAI that can not only think on its own, but purchase on behalf of the consumer.
What do surveys say about consumers ahead of Black Friday? More than one-third of U.S. consumers are either very or extremely willing to use generative AI tools and chatbots for holiday gift recommendations, according to a Gartner survey that polled over 1,000 U.S. consumers.
It’s a sign of AI’s growing influence on commerce, but the budding tech is still is not as popular as tried-and-tested methods such as recommendations from family and friends or traditional internet searches.
Retail is still a world that is largely split between online and in-store shopping. Gartner said 77 percent of consumers are planning to shop in-store and 75 percent plan to shop on Amazon.
That’s how consumers use AI to refine their searches, but what about the steps after? It seems an entirely different conversation.
