Nike, Converse, Vaquera and Lacoste have all revealed sneaker heel styles lately.
Naysayers of the divisive sneaker heel category might think that the hybrid style will never be more than a novelty item — but in 2026, the sport-meets-glamour aesthetic is sticking around and getting reinvented in all kinds of innovative ways.
The sneaker heel category gained steam in the 2000s and early 2010s with designs like the Sergio Rossi for Puma collection and Isabel Marant’s Bekett wedge sneaker. Fast forward to the 2020s, and there’s an entire luxury brand dedicated to the sneaker heel invention, Sara Blakely’s Sneex, which has garnered celebrity fans like Gayle King.
In 2026, the hybrid category is making headway, and could potentially go more mainstream, thanks to support from major brands. Under the Nike Inc. umbrella, Converse and Nike both have fresh entries to the market, including the Converse x Vaquera VX-1 Heel modeled by Kim Petras in a new campaign. It draws inspiration from Converse’s archival CS Pro-1 padded skate shoe, reinventing it with a kitten heel. The result is a classic sneaker upper elevated by a modest heel.
Over at Nike, the brand has refreshed a unique archival hybrid silhouette from 2004, the Ovolo. 0 , still features the style’s defining suspended heel. Set for a holiday 2026 release, it’s going to be offered in metallic silver and matte pitch-black colorways, with a lifted, Shox-inspired foundation.
