From Chanel’s blockbuster Le19M exhibition to a secondhand vintage revival, here are the must-visit locales during Shanghai Fashion Week.
The archival store, which specializes in hard-to-find runway looks, particularly those from Chanel, Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier, reflects its owner, Gen Z couture collector Jason Xue’s love for serious Y2K fashion. The 600-square-meter, three-story store, recently visited by Kim Kardashian, is particularly attractive to Chanel lovers — with the brand’s square-logoed Sports Collection from the early 2000s presented in full, a dedicated menswear area featuring Chanel jackets that run up to size 50, and even a Chanel guitar. In addition, more contemporary and commercial pieces, such as Sabato de Sarno’s Gucci and Maria Grazia Churi’s Dior, round out an area which Xue cheekily calls the “flea market.”
As NikeSkims’ first physical manifestation in China, the store is a futuristic and neutral-toned space situated within Shanghai’s destination shopping mall HKRI Taikoo Hui. With queues that wrap around the block, fans of Kim Kardashian can also visit Lane Crawford’s NikeSkims corner for a more breezy shopping experience.
Shanghai ’s vintage revival began in earnest with the opening of a Zhuanzhuan flagship downtown. The 5,000-square-meter, warehouse-style venue is home to all kinds of secondhand goods, ranging from Hermès Birkins and Chanel Classic Flap bags to Nintendo game consoles and Leica cameras. The Beijing-based company was launched 10 years ago as a secondhand iPhone dealer and quickly grew into a dominant player in the space.
