Youth fashion brand Pacsun said it is expanding its PS Vintage in-store experience for fall with a new assortment of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces at select stores nationwide as it sees a growing appetite for secondhand fashion among Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
Pacsun said in a statement that the new fall assortment builds on categories that resonated with shoppers during the first in-store drop in April, including fleece, denim and graphic tees, while adding more seasonal pieces, including vintage outerwear for the first time.
This will continue the brand’s partnership with Springy, a secondhand fashion startup which has been supporting the sourcing, curation and operational infrastructure behind PS Vintage. Together, Pacsun said they are bringing a continually changing selection of one-of-a-kind pieces to select Pacsun stores while preserving the sense of discovery that powers vintage shopping.
This development reflects a larger trend that has given preloved fashion its second wind, thanks largely to the youth.
It’s a push that is often associated with Gen Z. According to a U.S. survey from post-purchase platform Seel, no other demographic bought as much secondhand clothes online in 12 months as much as Gen Z (57.4 percent) followed by millennials (52.8 percent). By comparison, only 26.2 percent of Gen X consumers, aged between 46 to 61, said they thrifted online.
“PS Vintage allows us to turn that insight into something tangible for our community, combining the discovery and individuality of vintage with the accessibility of the Pacsun experience,” said Richard Cox, chief merchandising officer at Pacsun .
