The free-to-view Nigo presentation, displayed on Canvas, Olympia's new 83-meter-long digital screen, is open to the public until Oct. 4.
FREE FOR ALL: Olympia, the recently redeveloped West London exhibition and entertainment venue, on Friday revealed a yearlong partnership with the Design Museum.
It kicked off with an immersive digital presentation spotlighting Nigo, the veteran Japanese designer and current artistic director of Kenzo. Images of his work are displayed on Canvas, Olympia’s new outdoor digital screen spanning over 83 meters.
The museum is hosting “Nigo: From Japan With Love,” the first retrospective exhibition celebrating the designer, who also created A Bathing Ape and Human Made.
“I am truly honored for my first retrospective exhibition to be held at the Design Museum in London, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to present my work in such an iconic space,” Nigo previously stated.
The Japanese designer has worked alongside numerous world-famous creative directors, such as Pharrell Williams, producing innovative designs and partnerships, while revolutionizing the relationship between streetwear, luxury fashion and global culture.
Honoring Nigo’s work and influence, the exhibition analyzes and illustrates the cultural fusions that have shaped his lifework through fashion, music, and design — from Japanese craft and streetwear to vintage Americana and contemporary luxury.
“It’s a privilege to partner with the Design Museum, a leading London cultural institution, to bring their incredible exhibitions to life here at Olympia,” said Michael Volkert, chief executive officer of Olympia.
“Being able to offer this experience free of charge makes it even more meaningful and is central to our vision of making world-class culture accessible to everyone — we want culture to be woven into the experience of being here — not as an add-on,” he added.
