Kim Kardashian‘s brand Skims and Nike are entering the next chapter of their partnership, known as NikeSkims, with their take on the archival Waffle Racer sneaker.
After putting their stamp on the ’90s-era split-toe Nike Air Rift with their first shoe collaboration, NikeSkims is expanding its footwear lineup and delving further into history with a take on a classic sport style from the ’70s, the Waffle Racer.
The NikeSkims Waffle Racer features the famous waffle traction pattern and low-profile racing silhouette of the original sneaker. In addition to maintaining these classic elements, the shoe gets reimagined through three two-tone NikeSkims colorways and detailing located on the tongue, heel and sock liner.
“The Waffle Racer is one of those shoes I’ve always come back to. It’s so easy to wear and never goes out of style,” Kardashian, cofounder and chief creative officer of Skims, said in a statement. “Being able to reinterpret a silhouette with so much history was incredibly special. We wanted to preserve everything people love about the original while bringing a distinct NikeSkims perspective to it, creating something that feels timeless, elevated and relevant for today.”
The colorways of the Waffle Racer will also be seen in NikeSkims’ forthcoming Retro Sport collection, which is inspired by timeless sport silhouettes and set for release on Nov. 17.
This launch lands after NikeSkims’ expansion into China. In September, a NikeSkims pop-up opened in Shanghai at the city’s luxury shopping mall HKRI Taikoo Hui, where Kardashian made an appearance.
