The horror movie franchise gets a black-based counterpart ahead of its official release.

Nike’s “Scream”-inspired Air Force 1 surfaced in a white-based colorway in May, but it turns out the Beaverton, Ore.-based sportswear brand has further plans for the slasher-themed sneaker this Halloween season.

Newly surfaced Foot Locker e-commerce images show the upcoming Nike Air Force 1 Low LE in a previously unseen Black/Gym Red/Summit White colorway. The style features all of the clever “Scream” references seen on the white colorway, but shifts to a black leather upper with pre-distressed white markings throughout its design. Rather than the black Swoosh seen on the white style, this new black pair features a dark gray Swoosh, but the remainder of the unique details remain the same.

While not officially licensed, the upcoming “Scream” styles get their story across through a number of cleverly implemented details which include unmistakable references to the horror franchise. Along with the sneaker appearing scuffed and slashed as if it’s been tangling with Ghostface, the tongue’s Nike branding mimics the font of the film’s logo. But the most explicit allusion is the shoe’s metallic silver dubrae, which takes the shape of a phone to reference the 1996 movie’s chilling opening scene.

Nike’s unofficial pop culture references have not always gone over smoothly for the sneaker giant. In July, the sportswear company was sued for trademark infringement by convenience store chain 7-Eleven over the planned release of an Air Max 95 sneaker. “Nike’s misleading practices and misappropriation of 7-Eleven’s Tri-Color Mark likely will cause — and indeed already have caused — confusion among the public and likely will deceive consumers as to the Infringing Footwear’s source, sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation,” read the filing.
