Greybull Buys Mid-West Textile, Plans Thrift Town Expansion

Greybull Stewardship is adding to its used-textile investments with the acquisition of Mid-West Textile, with plans to expand the company’s Thrift Town stores.

The private investment firm announced the purchase on Oct. 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in El Paso, Texas, Mid-West Textile collects, sorts and grades used clothing and textiles for resale and other uses. Founded in 1982, it serves thrift retailers, vintage boutiques, fiber reclamation operators and industrial wiping cloth suppliers, alongside its own retail business.

Greybull said it would provide capital and operational support for the company’s growth.

“Mid-West Textile has built a leading business around extending the life of used textiles and clothing, and we are excited to support the company in its next phase of growth, including expanding its Thrift Town retail stores in the years ahead,” Mason Myers, Greybull’s founder and CEO, said in a statement.

Mid-West’s website lists Thrift Town locations in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Richardson, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M. The stores sell pre-owned clothing, home goods and furnishings. The announcement did not specify how many stores Greybull plans to add or where they would open.

The business also grades textiles for wholesale customers, evaluating items by condition, material, size, brand and style. Its operations connect used clothing with both resale buyers and businesses that recover materials for other applications.
