The space, set within the gardens of La Mamounia Marrakech hotel, sets the tone for the atelier's itinerant retail strategy and ambitions in the home sector.
The fashion and design curious have yet another reason to visit the Instagrammable botanical haven of hotel La Mamounia Marrakech.
Marrakshi Life, the fashion and lifestyle label known for handwoven textiles and fans including Erykah Badu and Lauren Santo Domingo, is opening its first store at La Mamounia Marrakech.
The retail space, set within the citrus and palm-laden gardens of Marrakesh’s five-star La Mamounia hotel, reflects the atelier’s ambitions to grow within the interiors and hospitality sector.
On Thursday, Marrakshi Life founders, married duo Randall Bachner and Nicholas Minucciani, told WWD they teamed up with creative director and designer Gabriella Khalil for the store’s design, marking the creative director and designer’s first project on the African continent.
“La Mamounia felt like a natural fit: It is an iconic institution, and its guests align with our customer. We’re a destination brand,” Minucciani told WWD in an interview. The official opening also marks the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary.
Inside, Khalil’s signature escapist aesthetic echoes through the tent-shaped, vitrine greenhouse space. Khalil, who is known throughout the spheres of hospitality, home and fashion, designed and curated the interiors, as well as curtains made from 200 meters of handwoven Marrakshi Life textiles.
The collaboration also reflects a long-standing friendship. Bachner and Minucciani met Khalil seven years ago through the brand’s first caftan collaboration with Palm Heights, where she was creative director.
