Guests, including Amy Poehler, Lupita Nyong'o, Ciara and more, came out for the annual event at MoMA.
“Do you want me to take your photo with them?” one guest offered up to her friend on Thursday evening as they entered the room at MoMA. The cocktail reception was filled with Hollywood celebrities, pop stars and fashion designers, but they weren’t who the pair had their eyes on for a photo op. No, that honor belonged to the Savannah Bananas, the exhibition baseball team who were impossible to miss in their bright yellow uniforms — and stilts — in a sea of suits and cocktail dresses.
The Bananas were in town for the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, now in its 16th year, and were this year’s sports innovator award recipient. The night also recognized Matthieu Blazy for Chanel as the fashion innovator; Rosalía for music; Amy Poehler for comedy; Marlon James for literature; Martin McDonagh for film, and Demis Hassabis for technology.
The annual event took place once again at MoMA, with a cocktail hour before a seated dinner and acceptance speeches. Russell Wilson, on hand to introduce the Savannah Bananas, held back and hammed it up with Marcello Hernandez while his wife Ciara posed for photos with Ashley Graham and Jordyn Woods. Lupita Nyong’o, who introduced James, wore a black Brandon Maxwell gown that made an onlooker gasp “wow!” at the sight of her.
Blazy’s arrival into the party caused several fashion heads to turn, and he eventually was greeted by Chanel ambassadors A$AP Rocky and Dua Lipa , who introduced his award to him later during dinner.
