Disney+ prices are going up again—what do you pay now?

Disney+ has rolled out its second price increase in as many months. Its standalone and Hulu bundle subscriptions now cost slightly more, with a notable exception.

The core Disney+ subscription with ads has climbed slightly from $12 to $12.49. Go with Premium to remove ads and you'll now pay $21.49 (previously $19). An ad-free Disney+ and Hulu bundle jumps from $20 to $22. The ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu bundle is unchanged at $13 per month.

New customers will see the higher prices immediately. If you're an existing subscriber, you'll notice the difference in your next bill on or after October 21.

This comes weeks after hikes for ESPN streaming, both by itself and in bundles including Disney+ and Hulu. You now pay as much as $33 per month for ad-free Disney+, Disney+, and ESPN Select.

This is the fourth price hike in four years .Disney+ hasn't explained the move so far, but it has historically raised prices to cover an expanding library and improve its bottom line.

Like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and similar competitors, Disney+ tends to justify these moves based on new content and higher production values. Toy Story 5 just became available as of this writing, for instance. Price increases theoretically help Disney keep up with these costs.

How much that applies in this case isn't clear. Disney+ hasn't discussed future Star Wars shows and is ramping down Marvel shows with the cancelation of Daredevil: Born Again after its third season. The service is more cautious after years of aggressive expansion, so it's not competing on the sheer volume of titles.
