Indonesian utility unit uses local Trina modules for Bali solar project

PLN Indonesia Power Services (PLN IP Services) said it is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for a solar project on Nusa Penida, an island off Bali in Indonesia, using modules made by PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia (TMAI). The company did not give the project’s capacity, cost or commissioning date. PLN IP Services is a subsidiary of PLN Indonesia Power, part of Indonesian state utility PT PLN.

TMAI’s factory in the Kendal Special Economic Zone in Central Java began operating on June 19, 2025. It has 1 GW of cell and 1 GW of module capacity and makes 720 W tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) panels with efficiencies of up to 23.3%, according to PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa (DSSA). DSSA, whose subsidiary PT Daya Sukses Makmur Selaras is a partner in TMAI alongside Trina Solar and PLN Indonesia Power Renewables, said the modules reach local content of up to 60%.

Nusa Penida, together with the neighboring islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, runs as an isolated power system supplied mainly by diesel generation, according to state news agency Antara. Antara also reported that PLN Indonesia Power already operates a 3.5 MW solar plant with battery storage on the island, which came online in November 2022.

PLN IP Services linked the project to Indonesia’s 100 GWp solar program, which President Prabowo Subianto launched at Gilimanuk, Bali, on Aug. 25. 3 GWp, and Prabowo set a target of 100 GW within three years.
