Greenvolt to install 25 MW of solar canopies at 120 French stores

Greenvolt Next will finance, build and operate solar carport installations at 120 Carrefour stores across France under an agreement with the retailer’s property division. The project will have around 25 MW of installed capacity and comprise approximately 45,000 solar panels.

The agreement follows a national tender launched by Carrefour Property for the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of solar canopies across its French property portfolio.

The installations will be adapted to the technical and operational requirements of each store, including parking layout, underground utilities, customer traffic, business continuity, grid connections and regulatory requirements.

The estimated annual generation is expected to cover a significant share of the electricity consumption of the participating stores. Carrefour aims to reduce its exposure to energy price volatility and lower the carbon footprint of its real estate assets.

Greenvolt Next, the Portuguese renewable energy contractor Greenvolt’s distributed energy subsidiary, will provide an end-to-end service covering financing, engineering, development, construction, operation and maintenance.

Greenvolt Next operates in 12 European markets and says it has more than 1 GW of contracted capacity, over 405 MW installed and a portfolio of more than 3,500 projects.
