900-MW portion of Indiana’s Mammoth solar project coming online

Three phases of Doral Renewables‘ Mammoth Solar Project will soon start commercial operation in Pulaski County, Indiana. Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I and Mammoth Central II represent a combined capacity of 900 MWAC, and with the completion of the entire 1.3-GW Mammoth Solar complex one of the largest operational solar projects in the country.

“Today is the culmination of true partnership between the Pulaski County community and Doral”, said Nick Cohen, president and CEO of Doral Renewables. “We started this project as a vision to bring a major economic development project to the county and an energy project to the state, and it grew beyond our wildest dreams. We are hoping to make this one of the leading dual-use sites in the country and further grow the partnership between Doral and local farmers.”

These three phases were constructed over 18 months, employing approximately 1,800 workers at peak activity. At one point, 20,000 panels were installed in a single day. During operations, Doral Renewables is exploring integrating agrivoltaic practices on the site, such as specialty crops and sheep and cattle grazing.

“Mammoth Solar is a powerful example of what happens when we connect American manufacturing directly to American energy infrastructure — Indiana steel, made by Indiana local workers, built into an Indiana power plant and generating electricity for Indiana communities,” said Robert Vinje, COO of Nextpower.
