CleanMyMac now helps you clean up Gmail and manage Chrome tabs

MacPaw today announced an expansion of CleanMyMac’s capabilities beyond the app’s traditional Mac maintenance and optimization tools. Here are the details.

CleanMyMac got two new features today, Email Cleanup and Browser Care, which are “designed to help users tackle digital clutter throughout their workday,” MacPaw explains.

Interestingly, both features focus on Google services, with Email Cleanup targeting Gmail and Browser Care designed specifically for Chrome.

With Email Cleanup, users can bulk-delete unwanted messages, unsubscribe from mailing lists, and review emails by sender, category, year, or attachment size.

Email Cleanup also helps users identify emails taking up storage space shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos, allowing them to reclaim it once those messages are permanently deleted.

As for Browser Care, it “helps users reclaim Mac memory and stay focused by identifying Google Chrome tabs that consume valuable resources or create unnecessary clutter,” according to the company’s press release.

It works via a Chrome browser extension that connects directly to CleanMyMac, and lets users access “near real-time,” as MacPaw put it, “memory usage, pause resource-intensive tabs, find duplicates across browser windows and identify pages that have been left open for hours or days.”

In practice, MacPaw says, Browser Care makes it easier to identify which background tabs are affecting the Mac’s performance, helping users address slowdowns and reduce distractions.

MacPaw also emphasizes that Email Cleanup requires confirmation before making changes, while Browser Care only closes or suspends tabs when users choose to do so. The company adds that page content, titles, and browsing history remain stored locally on the Mac.
