IonQ Quantum Computer to Power Nvidia's Quantum Lab

PANews, September 23 — IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi said last year that he hoped to make IonQ "the Nvidia of quantum computing." Now, that goal is advancing further in another way. IonQ announced on Wednesday that its latest quantum computer, Superion 256, will be the first system deployed at Nvidia's quantum research center. Rather than operating as a standalone device in a lab, Superion 256 will serve as a dedicated coprocessor working alongside Nvidia's GPU clusters.

Through Nvidia's CUDA-Q software, quantum computing tasks will be assigned to Superion 256, while Nvidia GB200 GPUs simultaneously handle large-scale classical computing and AI workloads. This is a typical example of a hybrid computing model, in which quantum hardware is directly combined with existing supercomputing infrastructure. IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi said the collaboration "is an exciting moment in computing and in the history of computing."
