Apple has had a busy October, but more action could be on the way later this month. While Apple’s rumored first MacBook with a touchscreen would steal the show at a potential Oct. 28 event, that’s not the only new gadget allegedly on the docket—there are iPads, too, and we just got yet another hint about what to expect from them.
Apple may have leaked a new case for an iPad mini—a Smart Folio case—that doesn’t seem to match any existing iPads, as spotted by MacRumors. The case was briefly listed on a French regulatory website, but it’s unclear whether it was ever added to Apple’s site. As MacRumors notes, the case doesn’t reveal any specs about the mysterious iPad mini in question, but it does hint at potential design shifts.
In the new case, there are 6,610 milligrams of rare earth elements, compared to 3,947 milligrams in the prior version. That most likely translates to bigger, stronger magnets, though it doesn’t shed light on the device’s specific dimensions. There is a chance that the new case hints at a redesign, since the listed accessory is entirely new, meaning Apple may have needed to make significant tweaks to size, cutouts for cameras, or something else.
That’s not a ton to go off, admittedly, but there have been some other drips that point to major changes to the updated iPad mini. According to previous rumors , the new iPad mini might be the first to include an OLED screen and may be powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip.
