The Redmagic 12 Pro is the first Snapdragon-based Android phone to support the Linux Terminal introduced in Android 16 for Pixel phones.
Android power users who want a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6-powered phone like the Redmagic 12 Pro now have another reason to be excited about the latest Qualcomm processors: the Android Linux Terminal.
Thanks to tipster Dylan H, who wrote in asking about compatibility. After enabling the Android Linux Terminal and running a few commands to check compatibility, I found out that the Redmagic 12 Pro does, indeed, support the Linux Terminal app. I’ve written Qualcomm asking about wider Snapdragon support for Linux Terminal and will update this article if I receive a response.
Google introduced the Terminal app as a power user feature in the Android 16 update for Pixel phones, and Samsung added support in One UI 8.5 for Exynos-powered Galaxy S26 models. So far, however, Snapdragon phones have not appeared on the compatibility list.
Linux Terminal support has been slowly building on Google platforms. Googlebooks sort of support it, and now it appears that more Android phones will support it as well. The implementation on the Redmagic 12 Pro seems slightly different from what’s on Exynos-powered Samsung phones, as you cannot adjust the disk size (it’s locked at 132GB available), but you can adjust the amount of memory available for the terminal to use.
6GB. You can also adjust the display resolution and enable Keep Awake in advanced settings. The Redmagic 12 Pro also supports the GUI feature, so programs like GIMP should work if you can get them installed (I kept running into 404 errors using the standard installation command).
