Tesla opens first Chennai experience centre as it expands India footprint

Tesla has opened its first Chennai experience centre and a collision repair facility in Poonamallee as it expands sales, service and charging infrastructure in southern India.

Tesla has opened its first experience centre in Chennai and a dedicated collision repair facility in Poonamallee as the US electric vehicle maker expands its presence in southern India. The retail outlet at Express Avenue Mall is Tesla’s sixth experience centre in India and its third in the south, after Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The Poonamallee facility will provide certified collision repairs, software-enabled diagnostics and replacement of genuine Tesla parts. The company said the facility is designed to improve vehicle safety and reduce the time customers spend waiting for repairs.

Tesla India country head Sharad Aggarwal said the company’s ambitions extend beyond electric vehicles into areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics. “Tesla is not just a car company. We are a company which is into AI and robotics, and how Tesla is defining the future,” Aggarwal told reporters. He highlighted Tesla’s work on autonomous driving and pointed to its Cyber Cab robotaxis, which are designed to operate without a steering wheel or pedals. The company is also developing a large-scale chip manufacturing facility in Texas and preparing for commercial production of its humanoid robot, Optimus. 89 lakh. 9 seconds and has a claimed range of up to 500 km.
