Some Galaxy S24, S25 owners say Samsung’s latest update is wrecking battery life

Samsung’s latest Android 17-based One UI 9 update seems to be causing headaches for some Galaxy S24 and S25 owners, as battery life has gotten considerably worse following the “upgrade.”

It’s an age-old story. Major update on a last-gen device and battery life, at least for some users, gets worse. It’s something you hate to see, but it’s a pretty established pattern at this point.

Reports have popped up since the update started rolling out more widely. SammyFans spotted a report of one user whose phone died in just over 5 hours, admittedly on heavy use. Other reports we found on Reddit include increased idle battery drain. Meanwhile, there are also reports on Galaxy S25 series devices, including one user who now has to “charge my phone 3 to 4 times a day,” with others mirroring that problem.

This seems to be the oddity and not the norm, so far at least. These reports aren’t widespread, nor are droves of other users reporting the exact same problem. Some troubleshooting steps that can help range from a simple reboot, force-stopping rogue apps, or a factory reset. Major system updates like this, as mentioned, just tend to go a little rogue sometimes.
