Several cybersecurity issues have come to light in the last 24 hours. These include a security issue involving eMudhra, a suspected data leak linked to State Bank of India (SBI) and two security flaws in PHP, a technology used to run many websites.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued an advisory about a security issue involving digital certificates linked to eMudhra's international website security and software-signing operations.
State Bank of India is also investigating reports that some customer information was found on the dark web, a part of the internet where stolen data is sometimes traded. Reports published on October 21 said an initial review covered around 3.75 lakh records found online. Of these, 3,897 reportedly contained personal information linked to SBI customers.
Two critical security flaws in PHP were also reported on October 21. PHP is used to build and run many websites and web applications. The flaws could allow attackers to run harmful code on vulnerable servers without logging in.
Never share your OTP, UPI PIN, ATM PIN or banking password with anyone. Banks do not ask customers to reveal these details over calls or messages.
Avoid clicking on unexpected links sent through SMS, email or WhatsApp. Messages claiming that your bank account will be blocked or that your KYC details need to be updated could be attempts to steal your information. Open the official website or app directly instead.
Use strong, unique passwords for your email, banking and social media accounts. Avoid using the same password everywhere.
