Sarvam launches new AI model to read documents in 22 Indian languages

Sarvam Vision 2.1 can extract information from forms and tables and read handwritten text in English and 22 Indian languages, the company said.

Indian AI company Sarvam has launched Sarvam Vision 2.1, a new AI model designed to read and understand documents, including forms, tables and handwritten text in Indian languages. The model can extract information from documents in English and 22 Indian languages, and is particularly focused on making it easier to turn documents into structured digital data. Sarvam said Vision 2.1 scored 87.3 on the olmOCR-Bench and 87.39 on its own Indic benchmark, which the company described as state-of-the-art performance on both tests.

The company first launched Sarvam Vision in February 2026 as part of its range of AI models developed for Indian languages. The earlier version focused on reading text from images and documents, understanding tables and producing structured information. Better at forms, tables and handwriting Sarvam said the new version can handle more complicated documents, including tables spread across several pages and forms where information needs to be extracted into specific fields. It can also recognise handwritten text in Indian languages, a capability aimed at digitising documents that cannot easily be processed by conventional text-reading software. The company said feedback from users after the first version showed that the model sometimes produced incorrect information, known as hallucinations, and could give inconsistent results.
