In a nutshell: Do any developers release their games' PC system requirements without upscaling enabled these days? Based on the new Rayman Legends Retold reveal, it's become very rare. Once again, the game can run on a potato-like PC, and once again, the caveat is that upscaling is required at every level.

The good news for fans of the long-running platforming franchise is that the latest entry will play at 1080p@60FPS on an Intel Core i3-8100 or Ryzen 3 3100 paired with a GTX 1060, RX 5500 XT, or Intel Arc A580 and 8GB of RAM. However, graphics need to be set to the lowest preset and you still need upscaling (quality).

That quality upscaling setting is present in all four levels. Interestingly, the required hardware for the Recommended (1080p@60FPS with high graphics preset) and 2K (1440p@60FPS high preset) levels is pretty much identical. Only the AMD GPU (RX 5700 to an RX 6750 XT) and Intel GPU (Arc A750 to Arc B580) change.

Finally, the 4K ultra preset level is still quite demanding, considering this is a platformer (an admittedly pretty one) and upscaling is enabled. It asks for an RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX. The CPU requirements are more forgiving: a Core i5-9400 or Ryzen 5 3600.

The modest storage requirement is nice to see: 33GB of SSD space. That's around half of what's needed for The Blood of Dawnwalker, and almost 100GB less than Gears of War: E-Day.

Back in 2023, Remnant II set what was then considered a worrying precedent: it was the first PC game " designed with upscaling in mind ."
