Karnataka wants its next wave of technology investments to reach beyond Bengaluru, and global IT companies are being encouraged to look towards its coastal cities.
NTT DATA is exploring plans to expand its operations in Karnataka, with Mangaluru and Udupi emerging as potential areas of focus. The company shared its expansion plans during discussions with Karnataka IT, BT and Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge on November 2, 2026.
The discussions covered new areas of collaboration, technology investments and opportunities to strengthen the company's presence in the state. NTT DATA, which recently acquired Karnataka-based Niveus Solutions and WinWire, cited the availability of skilled talent as a key advantage in expanding its operations, particularly along the coast.
Priyank Kharge highlighted the state's Beyond Bengaluru programme, which aims to develop technology ecosystems across Karnataka by extending investments, infrastructure and employment opportunities to emerging technology clusters.
“Through our Beyond Bengaluru programme, we are building strong regional technology ecosystems by investing in skilling, infrastructure and progressive policies. Our focus is on taking investments and opportunities to where the talent is,” he said.
He added that the government wanted to work closely with industry to develop solutions that could accelerate growth across Karnataka's emerging technology hubs.
The meeting also explored opportunities under Karnataka's Sustainable Data Centre Policy and potential collaboration with NTT DATA across data centres, cloud services and digital infrastructure.
Moreover, Kharge outlined plans for a cable landing station in Mangaluru, which is expected to strengthen the state's digital infrastructure, and discussed how NTT DATA's expertise could support the project.
