Nothing Phone (4a) and (3a) Pro can now join Android 17 open beta

Right on schedule, Nothing is releasing Nothing OS 5.0 open beta for the Phone (4a), Phone (3a Pro, and Phone (3a) before the company’s official Android 17 release next month.

The Android 17 package contains a few changes for Nothing phones. It was first released as a beta update for the Nothing Phone (3) with visual changes to the system UI and animations across the board. The update also includes new widgets, updates to the camera app, and a dedicated Glyph app for light controls and features.

You can check out the full changelog in our previous coverage. At its core, it brings Nothing’s devices up to date with the latest version of Android. Of course, this company is known for creating its own spin on both hardware and software.

Right now, though, Nothing is actively rolling out Android 17 beta access to the Nothing Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro, and Phone (3a). The update leaves out the Phone (3a) Lite, which is expected to get access later in the year. Users with either of those devices should now be able to access the Nothing OS 5.0 open beta, which puts it on par with the Phone (3).

In terms of scheduling, Nothing is right on time. The company posted its release schedule when the first open beta rolled out, and it remains unchanged. The three devices announced today will be followed by the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus in October.
