Americans are gearing up for a big day today, hitting the polls in what could be the most consequential election in recent U.S. history. As it happens, there’s another big event that you may not have heard of, but that could prove to be a nice distraction: National Sandwich Day.

Each year on November 3, restaurants and fast-food chains recognize one of America’s favorite culinary inventions—whether you stack it high or thin—with discounts, deals, and free food.

National Sandwich Day is named after—you guessed it—the 4th Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu, otherwise known as the creative genius behind that popular invention that places meat between two pieces of bread. The holiday is celebrated each November 3 to commemorate the earl, who was born on that day in 1718 in England (under the old-style Julian calendar).

There are a number of restaurants and convenience stores celebrating this auspicious occasion. Here are some of our favorite deals.

Nothing says sandwich like Subway, which is offering Sub Club members a buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) offer on footlong subs on orders via their app or online.

The footlong BOGO offer will be automatically added to current and new Sub Club members’ wallets in the Subway app. To join Sub Club, visit the Subway app or Subway.com.

Bonus: The deal runs through November 8. Double bonus: At the same time, Subway is also bringing back the super popular Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub.

Membership has its rewards: Members of 7-Eleven’s rewards programs— 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards —pay only $1 for a Big Gulp or other fountain drink all day on November 3, when they purchase a sandwich.
