Motorola Signature 27 confirmed to support GrapheneOS

It’s confirmed: The mysterious Motorola phone getting support for the privacy-focused GrapheneOS will be the Motorola Signature 27 that was announced earlier this week.

GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused take on Android that’s grown popular in recent years, has so far only been available on Pixel devices. That’s for a number of reasons relating back to how Google handles the software and the security components in Pixel (and Tensor) hardware.

But, now, GrapheneOS is officially stepping beyond Pixel and into a device that will come pre-loaded with its version of Android. It was announced that this would be a Motorola device, but which device was left a mystery as all existing Motorola devices were not compatible with the platform.

Unsurprisingly, though, the first GrapheneOS device from Motorola will be the Motorola Signature 27. GrapheneOS confirmed the news on Twitter/X, though other details are still minimal. It’s apparently still planned that devices will be sold with GrapheneOS pre-installed. The Signature 27 was announced earlier this week and its use of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset is likely a major part of the reason it will be able to run GrapheneOS properly.

An exact release date for the Motorola Signature 27 has yet to be confirmed, and it’s unclear if GrapheneOS will be available right away either. It’s already known that future versions of Razr flip and Razr Fold will also support the privacy-focused OS.
