Meta has unveiled camera-free Ray-Ban smart glasses, a $1,299 VR device and Meta Charm at Connect 2026, expanding its push to bring AI-powered technology to wearables.

Meta is betting that the next big way people interact with technology may have less to do with smartphones and more to do with what they wear or carry. At its annual Connect event on September 23, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new lineup centred on Meta’s AI assistant, Muse, including new smart glasses, a lighter virtual-reality device and a small handheld AI gadget called Meta Charm. The most notable launch may also be the one aimed at addressing one of Meta’s biggest challenges.

Meta introduced the Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first smart glasses without a camera. The concept is fairly simple: users can listen to music and podcasts, make calls and speak to Meta’s AI assistant without being able to take photos or videos through the glasses. Meta’s camera-free smart glasses.

The glasses weigh 43 grams and offer up to 12 hours of battery life. They start at $349 and are scheduled to ship from October 13. However, removing the camera does not completely settle the privacy issue. The glasses can still record audio, raising a basic question about whether people nearby know when they are being recorded. That matters because Meta’s camera-equipped smart glasses have already faced criticism over recording people without their consent.
