Meta is launching ‘VR Glasses’ next year for $1,300

Alongside its new audio-only and Ray-Ban smart glasses, Meta today also unveiled new “VR Glasses” which take the experience of a Quest into a far slimmer form factor with an external processing puck.

Arriving in “Spring 2027,” Meta VR Glasses are a second attempt at a high-end VR experience from Meta following the failure of its Quest Pro headset. And this is definitely a more refined and focused effort.

Meta VR Glasses aren’t a headset directly, rather going for a far more compact form factor that puts 5K displays in front of your face and offloads all of the processing and battery components off to a puck. The glasses themselves weigh merely 100g, around 1/5 that of the Meta Quest 3 headset.

The actual form factor is similar to XREAL’s upcoming Android XR-powered Aura glasses.

Meta VR Glasses support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, as well as IMAX Enhanced content – Disney+ will support VR through expanded aspect ratio starting in November. ESPN will also be bringing 8K streaming starting with college football, and more will be coming through NBC Sports, the MLB, and more in the future.

Controllers are not needed, Meta says, with hand gestures for general use and even the ability to put a virtual keyboard on the desk in front of you.

It’s all powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset and Meta says to expect around 3 hours of battery life from the puck for media playback, with 45W fast charging to top it back off.
