The new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition ($249) might be pricey, but it’s one of the best Kindles right now. Like the new basic Kindle (2026) I also reviewed, this model adds several upgrades that improve the reading experience.
This e-reader is lighter and thinner than before, making it easier to carry and hold for longer reading sessions. Amazon moved the power button from the bottom of the device to the right-hand side, virtually eliminating accidental shutdowns. The aluminum rear housing also gives the device a more premium feel. There are also connectors on the back for Amazon’s new wireless charging dock.
While the design has been overhauled, the display remains largely unchanged. The panel is still 7 inches with a 300ppi resolution. As a result, black-and-white pages and images look sharp and well-defined. In addition, the ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the front light, while the accelerometer rotates the screen when you change orientation.
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition might not be revolutionary, but it offers enough meaningful upgrades that make it worth considering — especially if you own a Kindle released before 2021. Read on to see if the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is the right e-reader for you.
The new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition impresses thanks to its sleek design, brilliant display, long-lasting battery life, and seamless integration with the Kindle ecosystem.
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition doesn’t radically reinvent a Kindle’s design, but the subtle upgrades make for a sleeker e-reader that’s also great to hold.
