How to instantly free up iPhone storage without deleting a single photo or app

Why is it that you seem to run out of iPhone storage at the worst possible moment? The knee-jerk reaction is to start frantically trashing holiday pictures or deleting apps you actually use. But you do not need to butcher your camera roll or pay for more just to claw back a few precious gigabytes.

A couple of clever, built-in settings reclaim space without touching the things you care about. To keep things simple, here are the two best ways to clear that storage warning for good.

High-definition clips and photos are almost always the secret culprits swallowing up your storage. If you shoot video in 4K, just sixty seconds of footage can eat through nearly half a gigabyte of local space.

Instead of manually picking through your photo library to delete memories, you can let your phone handle the heavy lifting automatically. Head over to Settings, Apps, Photos, and make sure iCloud Photos is switched on, and tap Optimize iPhone Storage.

This feature keeps smaller previews on your phone and moves the full-resolution files to iCloud, downloading originals on demand when you view them.

Most of us have a digital graveyard of apps we only open once in a blue moon — think airline boarding passes, occasional parking apps, or mobile games you haven't touched in weeks.

Offloading gives you the perfect middle ground. Navigate to Settings, General, and iPhone Storage , where your device neatly lists your apps from biggest to smallest. Tap on any culprits you don't need and hit Offload App .
